Three DocNomads films presented in Porto/Post/Doc, Portugal
The short documentaries Signs of Life by Julia Kushnarenko, In a Breath, by Catarina Couto Gonçalves and In Flanders Fields by Sachin will be presented in the Cinema Novo competition at the 12th Porto/Post/Doc Film & Media Festival held from 20 to 29 November.

In Belgium, the demand for stuffed pets has grown significantly over the past year. In a small taxidermy workshop near Ghent, several artists are trying to bring dead pets back to life. The young dog Mila becomes our guide to a mystical world where her owners learn to attain immortality.

Belgian figure skater Nina Pinzarrone glides in a delicate pursuit of perfection. Shot in black and white, the documentary explores the constant tension between grace and pain. Guided by Nina’s breath and silence, the film takes the viewer on an ephemeral journey as she prepares for her first World Championship at 17.

While visiting Ypres, Sachin learns that 1.4 million Indians were conscripted by the British to fight on the Flanders Fields during the First World War. Using audio recordings, letters, songs and archives, he brings his anonymous ancestors back to life, like ghosts inlaid in an immovable winter landscape.
