DocNomads graduation film wins VAF Wildcard in Belgium
Kinshuk Surjan, a DocNomads alumnus from India, won the VAF Wildcard for documentary with his graduation film De Flandrien in the Wildcard competition held at the 23rd International Short Film Festival Leuven, Belgium.
The VAF – Vlaams Audiovisueeel Fonds Wildcard is a prestigious Flemish prize awarded each year to recent graduate filmmakers, and for the first time a film directed by a DocNomads student was selected, this year out of a competition of 27 documentary graduation films.
The Wildcard offered by the Flanders Audiovisual Fund is worth 40.000 € for the project development and production of Kinshuk’s next film.

Synopsis:
In far West Flemish villages of Belgium, cycling is a serious family affair like farming. Expertise goes from generation to generation.
In the family Vandenborre, parents, uncles, grandparents are all pushing 16 year old Matthias to become a pro cyclist-Flandrien.
Matthias doesn’t want to deceive the expectations of the family. The promised son is eager to learn the recipes of winning. But the adolescent is also facing the big questions of life and he is in love. How will he manage the burden of expectations?
