Zsigmond Gábor Papp
Documentary Film Directing
Mentor (2014-17)

Zsigmond Gábor Papp is a film director and documentary-maker.

He studied history, literature and political sciences in Budapest and Bologna, then film directing in the Budapest Film Academy since 1993 till 1996.

He grew up in Budapest under dictatorship and surveillance – an experience that informs his work as a film-maker today. His 2004 documentary – based on the Archive of the Hungarian Secret Police -  ’The Life of An Agent’, about the training and techniques  of Hungary’s communist spies, is much-screened and much-discussed. It took part in several big festivals, such as IDFA and Mar del Plata.

He is also known for his footage compilated films about everyday life in Hungary in the 60s and 70s (Budapest retro, Balaton retro, Hungarian retro). In 2015 he finished a fiction series for the public television based on a funny Hungarian novel written in the 30s (Two against Paris).
