Mark Aitken is a director and producer of documentary films.

Mark’s multi-award winning film, Dead when I got here about a mental asylum run by its own patients in Juárez, Mexico is accompanied by a book and a photo series. His acclaimed photo series and installation Sanctum Ephemeral will be published in 2019 by Bluecoat Press.

Mark lectured film practice at Goldsmiths University, London for 11 years and continues to facilitate innovative short courses at St Martins. His PhD by Publication, Emotional truth in documentary making is based on 10 years of documentary practice.

He has also hosted and programmed film festivals, led juries in Estonia, Berlin, Poland and the UK. Mark also has published fiction, hosts a radio series and runs a non-profit company that has produced over 40 films.
